Scent? This took some getting used to. It smelled strongly of peppermint but also of seaweed. I wasn't a fan at first, but after using it for a while, I stopped smelling it.
Texture? Creamy but with a thicker "mud" like texture.
My Experience: I started using this in the beginning of June. I have normal acne prone skin for context. When I first used it, the scent was not to my liking and the minty sensation was very overwhelming (even for me, a tea tree oil zealot). I also mistakenly used it as a traditional cleanser and tried to take my eye makeup off with it. Biiiiig mistake. My eyes burned terribly. Of course I looked at the ingredients list and recommendations afterward and they say to NOT put it near or in your eyes. Lesson learned. So I used it how it was recommended night and day for several days. This stuff is very strong, within several days, combined with their Blemish Balm, it was too much for my skin. It had become dry, itchy and irritated. I wasn't moisturizing nearly enough for this cleanser because I was also using(reviewing) the Blemish Balm in conjunction. So I decided to alternate days with cleansers(Indie Lee's Rosehip Cleanser). This was the perfect combo. I was still getting the exfoliating benefits without over drying my skin. It was also recommended to me by Osea to mix the Cleansing Mudd with their milk cleanser the Ocean Cleansing Milk, but I didn't have the milk cleanser unfortunately, so I can't speak to that. Alternating seemed to work fine for me. I can definitely say it helped reduce my blackheads. Not a crazy amount, but it was noticeable. It also worked really well as a spot treatment! For when you get those painful wet pimples, this stuff is great to just blob on and let dry. It helped reduce their size and calm down.
Overall: I think this is a great cleanser/exfoliator, but my favorite way to use it was as a spot treatment. The smell doesn't make for a great first impression, (neither does putting it in your eyes like a dummy) but it's a great choice for cleaning out your pores and fighting breakouts. I did feel like whenever I washed with it, I was getting a good clean. Psychological? Maybe. But I did notice a small difference with my blackheads and my skin was turning over much more. I wouldn't recommend this for someone with sensitive skin however. It's very powerful but that's why I like it! It pulls no punches.
